Being a true servant
(Got this great word from a friend today. Taken from 1 Peter 5:5b-7)
All of you, put on an apron of humility. But don’t put it on the outside where everyone can see that you are a servant. Put it under all your clothes, closest to the most real, intimate parts of who you are, and serve without recognition, knowing that God meets you there and sees your humble service when no one else recognizes it. Put on this apron towards one another because God is not inclined to help the proud, but gives grace to the servant of all. And to serve that way with that kind of humility, we are all in need of more grace. So be humble, placing yourself not under the world or under the weight of expectations or rules, but under God’s hand of kindness and love, so that if you are going to be honored, it’s in His time and His way and from His throne, which is real honor anyway. So when it’s difficult, throw the difficulties at the feet of our Savior as if those cares were smelly trash that you don’t want to touch again, because He is the kind of God that can handle that. In those tough, ugly moments, He loves you more than you could ever imagine.
